The Argyle Collection

The argyle or diamond pattern is a knit motif that never goes out of style. Sometimes it is the trend of the moment, sometimes simply a classic that signals craft from across the room. At SAINTE MER there are three pieces with it: a sweater, a polo and a cardigan.

Knitted in, not printed on

The pattern is worked in the intarsia technique — every block of color on its own thread, with no floats on the back. That is why the knit is single-layered and the reverse is as clean as the face. The diagonals are applied in chain stitch. It takes more work than any printing process, and it is the reason these pieces convince from the inside as well.

Why the edges run soft

Because the yarn is brushed. The raised fibers settle lightly over the color change. With unbrushed yarn the edges stand harder — but the soft handle is missing. A deliberate decision in favor of the material.

Colorways and sizing

The cinnamon version recalls classic outfits in warm retro tones, the red-and-pink version is colorful and striking, while flannel and Black Silver White stay quiet. The sweater and the polo run true to size. The cardigan runs large — if you usually wear a 38, take a 36 here.
