Knit pants stand or fall with the waistband. Too soft and the piece looks like loungewear. Too tight and it pulls at the waist. Here it is broadly ribbed and has no drawstring — it holds without digging in, and it does not add bulk when a sweater sits over it.

The leg is deliberately wide and straight so the knit falls instead of clinging. That is why they work with a flat shoe just as well as with a heel.

Material and care

95% merino wool, 5% cashmere. The yarn is brushed: the fiber ends are raised, which makes the surface softer and the handle fuller.

• Hand wash cold with a mild wool detergent
• Or professional dry cleaning on a gentle program
• Do not bleach, do not tumble dry
• Do not iron hot
• Dry flat and reshape

Frequently asked questions

Which size should I take?
One size above your usual. If you normally wear a 38, take a 40 here. The pants run smaller than the number suggests — above all at the waistband.

Do they look like loungewear?
No. The wide, straight leg and the smooth drape give them the line of tailored trousers. What usually makes knit pants look like leisurewear are narrow legs and drawstrings — neither of which you will find here.

Do they bag at the knees?
Over the course of a day, knit gives a little at the knees and seat. Laid flat overnight, the knit draws back together.

Does merino wool itch?
Merino is considerably finer than classic virgin wool and lies flatter on the skin. The brushing and the cashmere content make the surface softer still.

Where does your cashmere come from?
From the cashmere goat, which winters on the high plateaus of Mongolia. Its undercoat is combed out by hand each spring — Grade-A, 14 to 16 microns. The origin can be traced back to the spinning mill.
