How to Care for Cashmere – Keeping it Soft and Long-Lasting
Cashmere is more than just a material – it is a delicate union of nature and luxury that deserves special care. At SAINTE MER, I want each piece to accompany you for many years, remaining soft, elegant, and beautiful. Here are my best tips to ensure that your cashmere retains its refined character over time:
1. Less Washing is More
Cashmere is a high-quality natural fibre with self-cleaning and antibacterial properties.
Wash your SAINTE MER scarf, hat, or sweater only when truly necessary – the less often, the better.
2. Gentle Cleaning – Proper & Careful
-
Use a special wool or cashmere detergent.
-
Wash your piece not by hand, but in your machine’s wool or delicate cycle at a maximum of 30 °C (86 °F).
-
Avoid strong spinning cycles.
-
Fill the drum only halfway – and make sure there are no sharp items such as zippers or Velcro in contact with the cashmere.
3. Proper Drying
-
Lay your cashmere piece on a clean, flat towel and gently roll it a few times to absorb excess water.
-
Never hang cashmere to dry – hanger marks and stretching can appear immediately.
-
Once dry, use a steam iron held slightly above the fabric (without pressing directly) to lift the fine fibres, restoring their fluffiness.
4. Pilling – Natural & Easy to Fix
Small bobbles (pilling) are a natural process – especially with natural fibres like cashmere.
If they bother you, a cashmere comb or gentle fabric shaver can carefully remove them. Afterward, the piece will look fresh again.
5. The Right Storage
-
Always store cashmere folded flat, never on a hanger.
-
A lavender sachet can help keep moths away – but avoid direct use of chemicals.
Conclusion
With the right care, cashmere will become even softer over time and remain a cherished favourite for years. At SAINTE MER, every piece is created to accompany life’s moments with elegance, warmth, and longevity.
